I have maybe one buddy at work who I can really talk sports too, everyone else is just fucking stupid. But even he annoys me because he is one of those people who just completely changes his rationale and arguments from day to day.

Like one day we will be talking about QB and he will say "well you can't really pin a team's W/L record entirely on the QB, it is a team game." Which I agree with, that is cool. But then the very next day we will be talking about a QB and he will just hammer the guy for never winning a championship or something like that, and I'm just thinking YOU DUMB FUCK YOU JUST SAID THE EXACT OPPOSITE YESTERDAY.

It is like he can't remember what the fuck he said the day before.

One of the guys is pretty knowledgeable but sometimes he says some shit I just can't get down with. Like... Roethlisberger is better than Manning, Brees, and Rivers, because Roethlisberger has 2 to their 1, 1, and 0 respectively. Then again, occasionally people say shit like that here.

Ask him if Robert Horry was better than Michael Jordan. Horry won 7 rings after all. :cope: lol

CR1 was a big adocate of "If you ahven't won a championship you're a shit QB". I think being that it's a leadership role on a team sport it factors into the discussion but it's not the be-all-end-all.

Would you take Dan Marino over Brett Favre?

I think I would. After 1996, Favre's playoff stats are mostly pretty meh (much like Marino's look). Marino's had great games, and shit games, on some pretty half-assed teams. Do the Packers win the Super Bowl in 1996 with Marino at QB? Or any of those other years when the Packers were awesome? I don't think that's much of a stretch.

I'd take Marino easily. It's not like Favre has a hand full of rings himself; he has one and played on much stronger teams over the years than Marino ever did.

Granted, Favre has the chance to win another one still, but I'd still take Marino, assuming we're talking about both in their primes.

After last season, I was talking fantasy football with a guy on the boat who told me how lucky he was to be able to draft "the Bears' new stud receiver Mike Knox in the fifth round". He revealed himself to be a dumbass in about 37 different ways with that statement.

Marino spent most of his career in Miami with shit defenses and no running game so yeah I would probably take him over Favre.

No. I used to clash with CR1 all of the time over that. Him and his whole “choker” label for any quarterback that didn’t win a title (regardless of how that player actually performed in the post season). Like I said, a lot of the time titles can point to leadership qualities and clutch play in the post season can definitely tell you a lot about a quarterbacks intangibles, but the whole championship thing is more of a perception issue than anything. People who disregard championships from quarterback evaluation completely are just as off-base as those who put it above all else though.

Marino or Favre? Ugh. I probably like Favre better but I would have to go with Marino. I think if Marino was playing in the FA era he would have at least a few titles. It was harder back then to put together a winner. In the FA era it seems easier to go out and get a few missing pieces and make a run. By the time that era was in full swing Marino was in decline.

Football just moves fast. It even happens to hard core football fans. Alot of people still think Nnamdi Asomugha is better than Darelle Revis, or that Shawne Merriman isn't the best OLB anymore and is now just pretty good. Hard to keep up with every last little thing.

Nnamdi vs Revis is still debatable, so I wouldn't think it was that bad.

It's the people who claim to be Bronco fans and think Cutler is still the Broncos QB , or thinking TO is still an elite WR etc. Or really people who just completely get shit wrong, like those mentioned in the topic.

A fan should know who their starting QB is, unless you're a team that is constantly changing QBs (Carolina) or if the QB change was at least recent (this off-season).

TO could still very well be an elite WR (depending on what elite means... I'm thinking a legit #1 WR that needs to be doubled). I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a monster season this year, depends on Palmer too though.

To that link by lostfan... that is just paradoxical. I mean... ANYONE who hasn't had their heads up their asses for the last 3 months knows that McNabb is a Redskin. People that don't follow football at all know this. But here are these people, who actually took the time out of their day to post about McNabb, the Bears, and the NFL.... but they don't seem to know. It's like they come from some other dimension.

Yeah I mean... I don't expect everybody to be a knowledeable NFL fan, but if you're actually putting your opinions out there for other people to read? I expect you at a bare minimum to be aware of the biggest news of the offseason that was front-page news for like a week.
